Every technology choice is really three choices in a trench coat: build it, buy it, or automate around it.
- Buy when the need is commodity. Don't reinvent email, accounting, or helpdesk tooling.
- Build when the workflow is your actual differentiator. Custom is only worth it where it makes you, specifically, better.
- Automate when the work is repeatable but not worth a full build. Glue and scripts win here.
The mistake is choosing by preference. Choose by the nature of the work, not the mood of the buyer.
